Usami is an original rabbit character inspired by tsumami zaiku, a traditional Japanese craft made by folding and arranging small pieces of fabric into flowers.
The idea began with the handmade tsumami zaiku pieces created in our home. We wondered: what if the gentle colors, flowers, and Japanese atmosphere of this craft became a character?
That idea became Usami.

Why a Rabbit?
We chose a white rabbit because its soft and friendly image matched the gentle, colorful, and traditional atmosphere of tsumami zaiku.
Usami’s basic design combines a white rabbit, Japanese-style clothing, and a floral ornament inspired by tsumami zaiku.
Where the Name “Usami” Comes From
The name is a simple combination of Japanese words: “usa” from usagi (rabbit) and “mi” from tsumami in tsumami zaiku.
Short, soft, and easy to remember — it felt right for the character.
Handmade Craft and AI Character Design
It is important to distinguish the two. The tsumami zaiku pieces are handmade crafts created by hand. Usami, on the other hand, is an original character inspired by those crafts, with AI tools used as part of the illustration process.
The concept, story, character direction, and connection to our handmade work are original to this project.
Usami’s Personality
Usami is relaxed and gentle, but becomes completely absorbed in the things she loves. She likes flowers, Japanese sweets, walks, and beautiful scenery.
Her special talent? Making someone smile, even just a little.
From Blog Character to Stickers and Goods
Usami started as a small idea inspired by tsumami zaiku, but the project is already expanding into LINE stickers and other original merchandise.
In the future, we hope to connect real handmade tsumami zaiku, Usami’s character world, and original goods in a way that introduces Japanese handmade culture to more people overseas.
